Priorizing Peace of Mind

One of my favorite quotes is: “Choose peace of mind as your greatest priority, and then organize your entire life around it.”

Until recently I thought that having “peace of mind” meant getting all the externals of my life in order. Then I’d live a quiet, peaceful life – with my dog by side – meditating every day.

Lately the externals of my life have been like being swept up in a series of huge tidal waves. How can I find peace of mind when chaos is going on all around me?

The answer is to ask myself what is happening beneath the waves. If I focus my attention there, I find peace.

I can relate to your tidal wave metaphor, Peter. To ask what’s happening beneath the waves… nice. This is helpful. Thank you.

      Hi Richard & Giselle,
So lovely to hear from both of you. I so appreciate your thoughtful comments about Linda’s passing. I have since found a new love in my life named Susan, and we are both planning to purchase a home together in Maui Meadows. I have my home in Haiku on the market! As soon as we can get all the craziness of buying/selling 3 homes behind us, Susan and I plan to come to Kauai for a visit. It would be wonderful to see both of you!
Aloha to you and your family. Glad to hear you are all well.
      Peter
